Publicity needed

Many people do not know about the new overnight train service between Vijayawada and Secunderabad.

Though the railway officials have introduced the train on temporary basis to meet the extra rush during summer, they seemed to have forgotten the issue of giving wide publicity to the service. As a result, many people still depend on buses to reach the State capital. The officials should remember that the patronage for Sathavahana inter-city service was poor during the initial days of its introduction. Following wide publicity given by the officials, people began to board the train.

Issue multi-purpose

Identity cards

Obtaining a certificate of identity, such as proof of residence and caste, is a major problem for people due to the non-availability of officials concerned. Even as we visit offices repeatedly, we cannot meet the official as he/she may be in a meeting or on a tour. One should spend at least a week to obtain required certificates. I request the Government to issue `multipurpose identity cards' to all citizens. This card would be of great help to students and job aspirants, who require certificates to apply for scholarships and jobs.

Welcome decision

I welcome the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) decision to levy penalty on tele-marketers for disturbing fixed line and mobile phone users by making unnecessary calls. Almost every mobile phone user is facing the problem of calls from private banks, insurance companies and other corporate groups to give information pertaining to their schemes and packages. These callers do not bother whether the person is in a mood to converse with them, whether he or she is pre-occupied with some urgent work, and whether he or she, in the first place, requires their product/service. The TRAI's decision to levy a fine of Rs. 500 per call on these companies would provide a great relief to phone users.
