Thrissur: As many as 609 people were on Sunday treated for viral fever in hospitals in the district. Health officials said that 69 cases of diarrhoea, three of dengue fever and one of typhoid were reported on Sunday. As many as 5,695 cases of viral fever and 620 cases of diarrhoea have been reported in the district since June 1. In all, 485 viral fever and 141 diarrhoea patients were admitted to hospitals during this period, Health officials said. Dengue fever has been reported in areas such as Chittilappilly, Peramangalam and Kunnamkulam. Health officials urged people to consult physicians if there was sudden onset of fever with severe headache, muscle and joint pains, and rashes. The dengue rash usually appears first on the lower limbs and the chest. Patients may also complain of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. Health officials said some patients from places such as West Vemballur showed signs of chikungunya. Special meetings of Health officials will be held on June 11 and 12 to devise strategies to check the spread of diseases.
