Opposition pursuing `bankrupt politics': YSR

Staff Reporter

  • Targets Chandrababu Naidu in particular
  • Agrees to rename project area as Brahmani Hills

VEMAGUNTAPALLI (KADAPA DT.): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday charged the Opposition, particularly Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, with practising `bankrupt policies' and `mudslinging' on him and his family, envious of unprecedented progress in irrigation and industrial sectors.

Speaking after laying the foundation for Brahmani Industries Limited, an integrated steel plant here in Jammalamadugu mandal, he lambasted Mr. Naidu for targeting him and his family, forgetting that not a single irrigation project or industry came up in his nine-year rule. The main Opposition stooped to allege that he and his son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy were behind the steel plant, with its MD Janardhana Reddy being a `benami' person, he said.

    Brisk work

The Opposition was perturbed at the brisk work on irrigation projects and several new industries coming up and was even `worried' at good rainfall being received by the State, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy alleged.

A commercial airport mooted nearby would give a fillip to tourism as Gandikota and Mylavaram reservoirs were in the vicinity, the Chief Minister said.

He wanted priority to be given in jobs to people of Jammalamadugu, Rayadurg in Anantapur and Kurnool districts. He conceded BIL Managing Director Janardhana Reddy's request to rename the project area as `Brahmani Hills'.

Launching a tirade against Mr. Naidu at a press conference later, he charged him with making his party leaders of coastal Andhra and Telangana oppose capacity augmentation of Pothireddipadu head regulator.
