DINDIGUL: Over 28,000 candidates appeared for the written examination for the post of Village Administrative Officer held in Dindigul and Theni districts here on Sunday. About 16,000 candidates appeared for the test in Dindigul and over 12,000 in Theni districts. The Collector, R. Vasuki, inspected the arrangements made at three examination centres in Dindigul. Water facilities, basic amenities were also provided in the examination halls. Special squads conducted surprise checks in the examination centres in both Palani and Dindigul. Adequate security was provided to 52 centres in Dindigul and 22 centres in Palani. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Division-IV) Limited operated special buses to the exam venues in both the districts.
Virudhunagar
Around 10 per cent of the 24,162 candidates who had applied absented themselves from the examination in Virudhunagar district. The Collector (in-charge), S. Malarvizhi, supervised the arrangements at the 99 examination centres. She inspected some of the centres in Srivilliputtur, Sivakasi, Virudhunagar and Aruppukottai. Official sources, said the examination went on smoothly. A special vehicle collected the answersheets kept in sealed boxes to be sent to Chennai, sources added.
Ramanathapuram
A total of 13,680 candidates attended the written test conducted here on Sunday for the post of Village Administrative Officer. The examination was held in 37 centres in various parts of the district. The Collector, R. Kirlosh Kumar visited various examination centres to inspect the arrangements.
Madurai
Thousands of men and women aspiring for the post of Village Administrative Officer took the examination conducted on Sunday in various centres across the district. This was the first time that the physically challenged have been allowed to sit for the examination for the post of Village Administrative Officer conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. This followed a case filed by various associations fighting for the rights of physically challenged in the Madras High Court challenging a Government Order preventing them from competing for the post. The Court ruled in their favour, after which a fresh G.O. was passed allowing all those with 40 to 50 per cent disability to take the examination. According to an official, 38,000 candidates wrote the examination in 151 centres in Madurai district. There were 115 centres in Madurai, seven in Usilampatti, 11 in Melur and 18 in Tirumangalam. Twenty teams comprising officials in the cadre of Deputy Collector, Tahsildhars and BDOs were deployed as flying squads.
