FIGHTING FIRE: Seven fire tenders struggled for nearly five hours to put out a blaze in a four-storeyed bulding of a private polymer manufacturing company in New Town Manali on Sunday.
CHENNAI: A fire broke out in a private polymer manufacturing company in New Town Manali on Sunday. However, no casualty was reported. Fire tenders struggled for nearly five hours to put out the fire that broke out in the four-storeyed building in Aamullaivoyal at 12.30 p.m. The cause of the fire was not known immediately and the extent of loss is being examined. A case has been registered. Fire And Rescue Service personnel said the fire was noticed from the drying units on the first and second storeys. The thick pall of smoke and strong winds prolonged the efforts to bring the fire under control. Senior officers, led by Deputy Director Fire Services Madurapandian, Divisional Fire Officers Vijayakumar, Meenakshi Vijayakumar and Jeevanandam, supervised the operations. Apart from seven fire units, four foam tenders and one hydraulic platform were pressed into service. Water tankers from various local sources were kept as a standby. Fire-fighting equipment on the company premises, which stocked inflammable materials, were found to be inadequate.
