`Resignation won't help farmers'
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE:
"He should remember that he is the son of a former Prime Minister who never accepted defeat," H.D. Deve Gowda said in the context of his son H.D. Kumaraswamy's reported intention to resign if suicides by farmers continue. "It is not possible to end farmers' problems just by resigning. Instead of getting disheartened, he should strive for a solution to their problems by continuing in power for the remaining four and half months," he said.
The United Progressive Alliance Government had failed to handle the problems of sugar industries. How can the State Government solve this issue when the Prime Minister himself could not find a solution?, he asked.
He ridiculed criticism by State Congress leaders that the State Government was responsible for the problems of sugarcane farmers and their suicides. "The crucial issues relating to the sugar industry such as exports, export subsidy and banning of exports are those which have to be dealt by the Centre," he said, and urged them to take up these issues with their national leaders.
