KOCHI: Top priority has been given for the Vypeen-Munambam coastal highway work, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish has said. The outlay for the work is Rs. 155 crore. In a press release recently, he said the work should be hastened, as vehicular traffic had increased after the opening of the Goshree bridges and would go up again on the commissioning of the Vallarpadom international container transshipment terminal. He said survey had been completed for the 23-km-long and 30-metre-wide road. Chief Minister V.S. Achutanandan, who chairs the Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA), had evinced keen interest in the project. Mr. Hanish said tenders would be called in July for widening roads in Mulavukad panchayat limits. The work was estimated at Rs 12.72 crore. Land owned by 759 people would be acquired. The width of the roads would be increased from 5.5 metres to 7 metres. Work was in progress to upgrade approach roads to Goshree bridges to National Highway standard.
