Akademi awards given

KOCHI: The Kesari Puraskaram and fellowships of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi were presented on Sunday evening at the TDM Hall here.

Also distributed were the 36th annual State awards. Exhibitions, on till June 21, were inaugurated.

Sebastian Paul, MP, and K.V. Thomas, MLA, were the guests. Chairman of the akademi C.N. Karunakaran presided.

The fellowships were given to T. Kaladharan and B.D. Dethan, artists. The Kesari Puraskaram was given to R. Nandakumar, art historian and culture critic. The State award recipients are G. Asok Kumar, P. Suvarna, Rathi Devi, P.V. Nandan and Robert V.J.

The award for best book on art and artist went to Kavitha Balakrishnan. K.T. Mathai won the Sankara Menon Endowment Gold Medal and Rajan M. Kadalundi won the Vijayaraghavan Endowment Gold Medal.
