Bury it

Looking at the manner in which the CBI and the UPA Government went about the business of extradition, the outcome is hardly surprising. With the chances of getting Mr. Quattrocchi extradited looking bleak, what we need to do is to give the case a neat burial like many other scams in the past. At least we can save the taxpayers' money, which can be utilised for investigating other scams in future.

One wonders why the Government of India is pursuing the case, after deciding that Mr. Quattrocchi has nothing to do with the Bofors payoff and facilitating the withdrawal of his funds from a frozen bank account in London. The government no doubt will ensure that the law takes its own course. And the people know what it is.

L'affaire Quattrocchi is becoming curiouser and curiouser. The CBI has yet again failed to present a strong case for the extradition of the Italian businessman. The case is obviously being kept on the backburner so that it dies a natural death.

How serious are we about uncovering the Bofors scam? The powers that be are constantly keeping certain scams alive to make the common man believe that cases involving corruption in high places are being sincerely pursued. This drama has been going on and will continue forever to divert our attention from the games being played under cover.

Are we right is spending so much money on a lost cause, when it is obvious that enough efforts are being made to provide the accused an escape route?
