Letters to the Editor
The Madras High Court's ruling that schools cannot deny their students admission to class XI is welcome. At the same time we should spare a thought for those students who pass out of schools that have only up to class X. If they are treated as outsiders in other schools, how can they continue their studies? Schools should increase their strength in higher secondary classes to accommodate students from other schools too.
S. Sampath,
* * * Most private schools do not admit students who score low percentage of marks in class X, even if they are their own students. If every school insists on admitting students with high marks or on the basis of admission tests, what will be the fate of average students? I don't think schools do a great job by admitting students who score 90 per cent and above. They should admit students who score average and below average marks and make them fare well in class XII. That alone will reflect the true value of the institution and its teachers.
S. Radhakrishnan,
