Delhi hopeful of bartering power

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: As Delhi struggles to meet its power needs, the Power Department is hopeful of finalising a barter agreement with Madhya Pradesh. Delhi Transco has proposed a barter arrangement wherein the two States will supply about 100 MW of power to each other.

The discoms in Delhi will give 100 MW between 12 p.m. and 6 a.m. and Madhya Pradesh will return 90 MW between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The arrangement will be subject to availability of the transmission corridor between Eastern Region and Northern Region and between Western Region and Northern Region, respectively, Transco officials said. Meanwhile, as officials claimed to have met the highest peak load demand of 4,030 MW at 4-20 p.m. on Monday, power cuts were reported from several parts of Delhi. Residents of South Delhi and East Delhi spent sleepless nights. "We did not have electricity from 1 a.m. till late afternoon on Monday and then again at 4 p.m.," complained Divya Gosain of Malviya Nagar.
