IGNOU cancels 966 results

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University has cancelled the results of 966 students for allegedly adopting unfair means at the December 2006 term-end examinations.

A five-member Examination Disciplinary Committee also barred them from taking the June 2007 term-end examination.

In most cases, the Examination Centre Superintendent had reported that the students used incriminating material. There were also some students who appealed to the evaluators to give them pass marks and had attached currency notes to the answer books.

Nurse, hospital staff call off strike

NEW DELHI: Staff nurses and Group C and D employees of various Government hospitals in the Capital on Monday called off their 24-hour token strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday morning.

The Delhi Government's health officials met the employees on Monday and agreed to look into their demands for ending contract-based appointments and privatisation. They also agreed to provide medical cover to the State health employees.

MP assures funds to Mayur Vihar Phase I

NEW DELHI: The Member of Parliament from East Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit, has agreed to sanction money from his MP Local Area Development Fund to revamp streetlights and install missing electricity poles in Mayur Vihar Phase I here. Mr. Dikshit's assurance came when a delegation of Federation of Mayur Vihar Group Housing Complex led by Shanker Bhan met him at his Pandara Road residence here over the weekend. The Federation also took up with Mr. Dikshit the issue of setting up a railway reservation counter at a vacant plot in Samachar Local Shopping Centre.

Spanish industrial team visits DJB

NEW DELHI: A high-level delegation of the Confederation of Spanish Industries visited the Delhi Jal Board headquarters here on Monday. It discussed with DJB Chief Executive Officer Arun Mathur and other senior officials a wide range of issues to explore areas of mutual interest in the water and sewer sectors.

Alleged touts held

NEW DELHI: Northern Railway officials arrested five alleged touts and suspended two booking clerks at New Delhi railway station on Monday. As part of a special drive, 59 touts have been arrested between January and May this year.
