NEW DELHI: Professional golf in India is set to take a giant leap when a European Tour event worth a whopping $2.5 million tees off at a yet-to-be-decided venue, in or around the Capital, from February 7 to 10, 2008. The richest-ever sporting event to be staged in the country, the Indian Masters is expected to attract several leading names from the European Tour besides Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal. Significantly, the event will also offer 20 spots for those from the domestic PGTI Order of Merit. Sanctioned by the Indian Golf Union and organised by `golf in DUBAI', the Indian Masters will be the 37th destination on the European Tour schedule. The Delhi Golf Club and the Golden Greens, in Gurgaon, are the venues in contention to host the historic-first European Tour event in the country. Special Correspondent.
