Anaka, Ravi Dixit triumph

CHENNAI: ICL Academy trainees Anaka Alankamony (u-13) and Ravi Dixit (u-17) triumphed at the Penang International junior squash championships recently.

Anaka defeated compatriot Saumya Karki 9-1, 1-9, 9-5, 10-9 in the final. Anaka and Saumya won their semifinals in straight games, defeating Malaysians Yong Sue Ann and Celin Yeap respectively.

Ravi Dixit defeated Ng Jo Wen (winner of the Malaysian Junior Open) 9-7, 9-2, 8-10, 10-8 in a close final.

In the semifinals, Ravi beat South African Stephano Gras, who had defeated him in a five-set thriller at the Malaysian juniors, 9-4, 9-6, 9-0.

This is Ravi's first international title in the boys' u-17 category, adding to his victory at the Scottish junior in December 2006 in the u-15 category.

The other Indians who made it to the top four were: Anwesha Reddy (second in u-17); Dheeya Somaiya (u-15), Pankhuri Malhotra (u-11) and Akshay Deepak (u-15) (all fourth position).
