Hambir Singh takes silver

NEW DELHI: Hambir Singh missed the 25-metre pistol gold by an agonising margin after being tied at 577 with Olivier Gilquin of France in the Meeting of Shooting Hopes international junior championship at Plzen, Czech Republic, on Sunday.

In the shoot-off, Hambir had a 96 to the 97 by the French lad.

India wins team gold

Though the other two Indians, Amit Kumar and Zakir Khan, finished 12th and 15th respectively, the Indian team managed to pip France by eight points for the gold.

It was the fifth gold medal, including two individual gold, for Zakir Khan while it was the third team gold for India.

The Indian junior women's rifle 3-position team also managed to bag a bronze behind the United States and host Czech Republic.

Air rifle: 1. Thomas Csenge (US) 689.8 (592); 2. Anton Rizov (Bul) 688.6 (587); 3. Andrew Roland (US) 687.1 (586); 36. Bibaswan Ganguly 572.

Junior women: Sport rifle 3-position: 1. Amanda Furrer (US) 685.8 (585); 2. Abigail Fong (US) 674.9 (576); 3. Adela Sykorova (Cze) 674.6 (577); 16. Lajja Goswami 572; 17. N. Saini Devi 571; 32. Navdeep Kaur Dhillon 563; Team: 1. US 1723; 2. Czech Republic 1713; 3. India 1706.
