NEW DELHI: Some anxious moments were witnessed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Monday morning as an Air India plane with 360 passengers on board made an emergency landing following engine failure. Sources said flight AI-102, which had come from London earlier in the day took off for Mumbai at 9.30 a.m. But minutes thereafter, the pilot reported to the Air Traffic Control failure of the third engine. As fire and smoke were also noticed, he sought permission for emergency landing. Immediately, all emergency procedures were put in place and ambulances, fire tenders and quick response teams of the Central Industrial Security Force took positions along the runway. The Boeing 747 plane landed safely at 9.39 a.m. The flight did not take off for Mumbai till late in the evening.
