Government rectifies controversial GO 399

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: In the face of criticism, the Government on Monday rectified its controversial order 399 issued recently to facilitate repatriation of non-local employees to their respective zones in accordance with GO 610. Chief Secretary J. Harinarayan announced to the media the "corrigendum" to the GO in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy after a meeting with several service organisations at the Secretariat.

By an amendment, the Government removed the clause that gave an impression of providing certain quota for non-locals who would be untouched by the process.

The Government also deleted the provision in the order that sought to take up the process of repatriation on the basis of "last in-first out" principle in respect of departments wherein non-locals were appointed in excess. The Government has instead decided to give the option of voluntary redeployment to employees within a week.
