Two die in Bellary district

Staff Correspondent

D.MALLAPUR (BELLARY DISTRICT): Two persons, including a woman, died and 106 are suffering from diarrhoea following the outbreak of gastroenteritis in the village. The names of the deceased were given as Kollappa (80) and Bommakka (45).

Consumption of water from a stepped well, which is said to be contaminated, was said to be the reason for the outbreak of the disease.

S. Mareppa, president of Kalingeri Gram Panchayat and resident of D. Mallapur village, said that owing to power failure, borewells could not be operated affecting supply of water to the village. People consumed water from the nearby stepped well and fell sick.

Cases of gastroenteritis were being reporting during the past three days but more number of cases were reported on Sunday, of whom majority were children and women.

A medical team has rushed to the village and started treatment of the affected.
