In his statement to the police, he said he returned home late on Friday night and knocked at the door. Preliminary investigations indicated that Harpreet had an extra-marital affair and thus had strained relations with his wife. "Harpreet had called up his wife around 10 p.m. on Sunday and told her that he would reach home soon and then made another call probably to his paramour," said a police officer.
