Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: An armed gang chased and hacked to death a man with criminal antecedents, near his house in Chandra Layout police station limits on Sunday.

The police gave his name as Shiva Kumar (21), a college dropout and a resident of Shivanandanagar in Moodalapalya. There was a criminal case against him in the Banashankari police station.

Around 10.30 p.m., six armed men accosted Shiva Kumar at Shivanandanagar. As he started running for cover, they chased him and assaulted him with swords and choppers. Passers-by rushed a severely injured Shiva Kumar to a hospital where he died, the police said. As Shiva Kumar had got into bad company and antagonised some local youths, his father Krishnappa, a mason, had sent him to his cousin's house in Ramamurthynagar. But the rival gang called Shiva Kumar on his mobile and summoned him to Shivanandanagar and killed him, the police said. The Chandra Layout police have registered a case.
