KOLLAM: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State general secretary K. Karunakaran Pillai has alleged that political interference has resulted in the operation to demolish encroachments getting frozen in the district. In a statement here on Tuesday, he said the ruling party's interference had led to the action getting stalled in the city. At Oachira, though encroachments have been clearly identified in a commercial area, no action has been taken because of political interference. Similar incidents have been reported from Sasthamcotta and Bharanikavu. But all encroachments at Oyur Junction have been demolished since there has been no interference. Those evicted includes a physically challenged person who operated a bunk. At Kottarakara, though a list of encroachments has been prepared by revenue officials, political interference has resulted in the list getting shelved, he alleged. Mr. Karunakaran Pillai said that except for some isolated incidents of eviction, no earnest attempt to demolish encroachments has been taken. He urged the Government to give a free hand to the district administration.
