Sanitation drive

KOZHIKODE: Sanitation Day was observed in the district on Tuesday in the backdrop of the suspected cases of chikungunya and other contagious fever reported here. Students, employees, representatives of political parties and social organisations, among others, participated in the cleaning drive from morning to noon.

Protest march by ABVP

Library forms panel

Thrissur: The managing committee of the Thrissur Public Library on Monday decided to appoint a panel to investigate an incident of books reportedly having been burnt in the library on June 9. The panel members are Alexander Jacob, Inspector General of Police, M. Madhavankutty, secretary of Thiruvambadi Devaswom, and M. C. Valsan, former Assembly secretary. The librarian had explained that the books were burnt since they were damaged by termites. — Staff Reporter

Case registered over baby's death

Thrissur: The Nedupuzha police on Tuesday registered a case against a 20-year-old woman from Vadookkara after the body of a newborn was found in a bundle of clothes that was burnt in her house. She told the police she had a stillborn baby. — Staff Reporter

Heavy rain in Thrissur

Thrissur: Heavy rain lashed the district on Tuesday. A tree fell on a house t Aanapuzha Colony at Methala village in Kodungallur, causing slight damage. — Staff Reporter
