Library wing of cultural complex in Dharwad ready

ALL SET FOR INAUGURATION: A view of the administrative wing of the `Suvarna Samskrutika Samuchhaya' in Dharwad, which will be inaugurated on Thursday.

HUBLI: The administrative and library wing of the cultural complex "(Suvarna Samskrutika Samuchchhaya)" built to mark the golden jubilee of the unification of Karnataka will be inaugurated in Dharwad on Thursday.

The cultural complex in Dharwad is the first among such buildings being built throughout the State to be inaugurated.

The works on similar cultural complexes in Gulbarga, Shimoga, Udupi, Madikeri, Belgaum and Bangalore are under progress.

The "Suvarna Samskrutika Samuchchhaya", as it will be called throughout the State, was being built at a cost of Rs. 2 crore, the construction of the complex had been completed.

The cultural complex comprises three wings — administrative wing, library and book section and auditorium and art gallery.

In Dharwad, the work taken up at a cost of Rs. 51 lakh has been completed. The administrative wing, book exhibition and library wing has been completed.

The administrative wing will house the Department of Kannada and Culture and act as office for the staff appointed for maintenance of the cultural complex, a senior officer said.

The book exhibition wing will be used to display books on culture, art, literature, architecture, drama, folklore, fine arts, tourism, history, nature of Karnataka and related issues. The wing will act as a sales counter. The cultural complex will include an auditorium that will accommodate 150 spectators.

The State Government has released Rs. 1.43 crore for the construction of the auditorium, art gallery and landscaping.

Work on the administrative wing, book exhibition and library was completed in a sort of record time. Work on the auditorium and art gallery is likely to take another year.

Inauguration

On Thursday, Minister for Kannada and Culture H.S. Mahadeva Prasad will inaugurate the administrative wing of the complex and lay the foundation stone for the construction of the auditorium and art gallery.

Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar would inaugurate the library wing. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti will inaugurate the Dharwad unit of Rangayana.
