Death of captain forces ship to return
Staff Reporter
KOLKATA:
The death of the captain of m.v. Akbar, a passenger ship belonging to the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and bound for Port Blair from here, forced it to return to the dock here on Tuesday.
Captain K.P. Noble, 57, is believed to have died in his sleep of cardio-respiratory problems, a senior SCI official told The Hindu. The ship, which had left on Monday evening, was anchored in the river, waiting for the high tide expected around 5.30 a.m., when the Captain failed to report, leading to the discovery of his death.
Following this rather unusual incident, the ship was steered back to the Netaji Subhash dock by its senior officers, the source added.
