GO to implement court ruling on school admission

Special Correspondent

Grievances cell to function at Directorate of Education

Puducherry: Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan said here on Tuesday that the Government was getting ready the order to implement the directive of the Madras High Court on admission of students to Class XI from the same school. Addressing press persons Mr. Shahjahan said that the copy of the order had been received, and the Law Department was finalising a suitable order containing the court directive.

The GO would be released on Wednesday positively, he noted.

He said that the order given in a case in Chennai was automatically applicable in Puducherry as well, as schools here adopted the Tamil Nadu curriculum of education. The Union Territory also fell within the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court.

Mr. Shahjahan said that the Government did not want to act differently. He said that all schools would be governed by that order.

Asked if the Government would keep on hold all admission processes particularly in private schools till the GO was published, he said that the Government was keen that there should be no deviation from the court order by any institution.

A grievances cell would also function at the Directorate of Education here, where parents or students could seek redressal in admission matters. Mr. Shahjahan said that the Government would sanction full tuition fees to students from Puducherry joining reputed institutions in New Delhi or other places to take coaching for Civil Service Examinations. The students should satisfy certain conditions including high percentage of marks in qualifying degree examinations.

The students should produce proof of their enrolment in the institutions and mark sheet copies. He said that the Government would soon organise functions to felicitate three students including a girl from Puducherry, who had emerged successful, in the Civil Service Examination finals.
