Krishna Iyer hails statement on nuclear deal
Kochi:
The former judge of the Supreme Court, V.R. Krishna Iyer, has congratulated the Manmohan Singh Government on the bold stand taken on the India-U.S. nuclear deal.
Mr. Iyer, in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, referred to the statement made by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, under the title, `Do not transfer your problems to us' (The Hindu Op-Ed page, June 11), and appealed him to be relentless in defending `our swaraj which shall never be under the pressure of Yankee Raj.'
"President Bush, in imperial violation of the sovereignty of other nations like Afghanistan and Iraq, has hurt me because who knows what his attitude would be towards India's sovereignty if we disagree with him," he said.
