Sensex dips below 14000 intra-day

MUMBAI: The Sensex continued its volatile swing on Tuesday and fell below the 14000-mark in intra-day trade for the first time since May 16. It, however, settled at 14130.95 at close after late-buying in manufacturing sector stocks.

Cement, steel and heavy engineering stocks led the recovery after the government data showed that the country's industrial production grew by a more than expected rate of 13.6 per cent in April.

Some brokers attributed the weak trend in earlier part of the day to the mega public issue of real estate giant DLF.

The issue was fully subscribed on the second day today.
