Mango export fetches higher Customs revenue

Banginapalle being sent to Europe and West Asia

CHENNAI: Mango export during this season has fetched the Customs department more revenue than the last season.

It earned Rs 2.53 crore last season, but only two months and 10 days into this season, the revenue now stands at Rs 2. 92 crore, says C. Rajan, Commissioner of Customs (Airport).

The Banginapalle variety, procured from in and around Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Tirupati, is sent to Australia, Brunei, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, the UAE, the U.K. and the U.S. And for the first time, the fruits are being sent to Australia and Germany.

The data available with the department shows that Banganapalli mangoes are priced at $2 a kg.
