Discuss transfer of farm technologies to Kerala

Thrissur: A group of seven academicians from the U.S. visited the Kerala Agricultural University on Monday.

The Michigan State University coordinated the visit. They met KAU Vice-Chancellor K. R. Viswambharan and other officials and discussed formulation of Indo-U.S. schemes for speedy transfer of farm technologies to farmers in Kerala.

They wanted to study how information and technology were being used for the welfare of small and marginal farmers. They visited KAU information centres, Pokkali rice fields in Ernakulam, rice fields in Palakkad and markets of the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council of Kerala.

The team comprised Dwight Allen, professor with the Old Dominion University, Mellisa Ho of Gates Foundation, Thane Terril of Columbia University, Carl Eicher and Jarim Maredia of Michigan State University.
