CPI(M) workers urged to join cleanliness drive

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI(M) has exhorted party workers and party sympathisers to participate actively in the weeklong cleanliness drive launched in the State on Tuesday to combat the spread of the mosquito-borne diseases such as chikungunya and dengue fever.

In a statement issued here, the CPI(M) State secretariat said Kerala was considered a model State in the matter of public health. During the last 20 years, however, mosquito-borne diseases had been making periodical visits to the State. The State Government was working full throttle to check the spread of the diseases. It had also tried to mobilise help from the Union Government, the Army and the Navy, in addition to various other agencies.

The media, on its part, was playing a creative role in spreading awareness of the diseases. A section of the media was also creating unnecessary panic, it said.
