  • `State Government should formulate a child policy without delay'

JAIPUR: Non-government organisations working for child rights in Rajasthan came together to strengthen the worldwide movement against child labour and organised several programmes here on Tuesday to mark the International Anti-Child Labour Day.

They pledged to make Jaipur a child-friendly city in the next two years.

A human chain was formed at Shaheed Smarak and a children's march to Rotary Club was organised.

At a meeting attended by activists and State Government representatives, the stakeholders highlighted the adverse impact of child labour on integrated development of children.

Representatives of NGOs such as World Vision, Save the Children, Pratham Rajasthan, Action Aid, Childline and the Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants' Society demanded strict implementation of laws against child labour in the State.

World Vision State coordinator Anil Joseph said the State Government should formulate a child policy without delay and appoint a State Child Commission to address child rights.

A memorandum submitted to the State Government pointed out that every child out of school for any reason was child labour.

"Collective efforts should be made immediately to send all children to schools and prevent child labour and trafficking,'' said the memorandum.
