DEHRA DUN: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri completes his first 100 days in office this coming Friday with a feeling that the people should give him a reasonable time to perform before arriving at a judgment on his leadership. The Government is planning functions in Dehra Dun and Haldwani to mark the occasion. "I may not be perfect but my heart is clean and I would do my very best for the State," Mr Khanduri told newspersons on Tuesday. Listing his priorities, the whip-cracking Chief Minister said a proper transfers policy would be announced soon to root out the big money game played by the touts and corrupt officials. Pained at the poor performance of students in the recent Board examinations, he urged the parents, teachers, students and community leaders to put their heads together to find out what had gone wrong with the education system. Emphasis will also be on tapping the vast water resources through small and medium run-of-the-river projects to cater to the power and irrigation needs. "Stress is also being laid at improving the agricultural practices and developing tourism as the common man's industry," he said. Besides charges of non-functioning or attempts to undo the good initiatives introduced by the Narain Dutt Tiwari regime by the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Harish Rawat and demonstrations by local Congress leaders in various parts of the State, the first hundred days have seen the former BJP Chief Minister Nitya Nand Swami threatening a massive agitation if the demand to withdraw land acquisition proceedings in six villages in Doon city is not met immediately. The dharna led by Mr Swami entered its 689th day on Tuesday. "I have assured Mr. Swami of justice and he should have patience. After all, these villagers are not being ousted," Mr. Khanduri said.
