Raichur girl wins seven gold medals

R.S. Roopa Bai of the College of Agricultural Engineering has won two cash awards too

DHARWAD: R.S. Roopa Bai of the College of Agricultural Engineering, Raichur, emerged as the "golden girl" at the 21st convocation of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad, here on Monday by winning seven gold medals.

Governor T.N. Chaturvedi presented the gold medals to Roopa Bai amidst thunderous applause at the new auditorium of UAS in the presence of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala. Apart from seven gold medals, Roopa Bai won two cash awards.

Achievement

She was closely followed by G.K. Sadanand of K.R.C. College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, who won six gold medals.

Roopashree Ugare of College of Rural Home Science, Dharwad, and M.H. Zameer of College of Agriculture, Dharwad, shared the third spot with five gold medals each. Roopashri won a cash award.

Ninety-six gold medals were given away to 46 students of graduate, postgraduate courses and research during the convocation. The following is the list of gold medal winners. The names of the candidates are followed by the name of the course.

Four gold medals: A.C. Naveenkumar, Galeppa Varchagal, Veena Kalannavar — B.Sc (Agri) and A.C. Manju — M.Sc (Agri).

Three gold medals: Santosh — B.Sc. (Agr. Maco); Shaba Alam Ansari — B.Sc. (forestry); Chandrshekhar Hanchinamani — Ph. D; Gururaj, V. Jyothi — M.Sc (Agri).

Two gold medals: Nagappa Uppar, Sharana Basappa Yeri — B.Sc (Agri.); A.P. Shivakumar, Tanveer Ahmed, K.C. Babitha, P.S. Chandrashekharaiah — M. Sc (Agri); Gitika Mathur, Swetha Suman — M.H. Sc.

One gold medal: Vinay Hemannavar, Jayashripada Hedge, Gurulingappa M. Vijapur, H.V. Chaitra, J.U. Chandrakala, Praveen B. Holeyachi, Lingutla Ranjitkumar — B.Sc. (Agri); M.S. Sanjeeta — B.Sc. (Ag. Maco); Veena Kolkar — B.H. Sc.; Shashikant Udikeri, Liyanapathirana Rupasena, Shivaprasad Upputuri, Sudheendra Astaputre, K. Krishnamurthy — Ph. D.; Saumya George, Prasannakumar, C.T. Manjunath Prasad, K.G. Janakirama Suresh — M. Sc. (Agri.); Bebjani Dasgupta, Mahadev Handiholi, Jayalaxmi Hiremath, A.B. Sanjay, Devaraj Barman, N. Devachandra — M.Sc. (Horticulture); Ajit Kulkarni — M. Sc. (Forestry); Rangalatha Khandi, M. Namrata (plus one cash award), Asha Lamboonavar — M.H.Sc.
