HYDERABAD: The Arogyasri Health Insurance Scheme, under which white ration card holders can avail of medical treatment up to Rs.2 lakhs, will be extended to the entire State, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced here on Tuesday. Inaugurating `Apollo Health City' here, he said 1,300 operations had been performed under the scheme launched in Srikakulam, Mahabubnagar and Anantapur districts on April 1. The Government, two-and-half years ago, had started another innovative programme for conducting cardiac surgeries for poor children and more than 8,000 operations were performed.
For rural poor
Dr. Reddy stated that the country had become the second largest destination for health care needs. There was a need to ensure that medicare reached rural areas while attracting patients from abroad. He lauded the contribution of Apollo Hospitals Group Chairman Prathap C. Reddy for the growth of healthcare in the country. Health Minister S. Chandrasekhar urged private hospitals to supplement efforts of the Government in providing effective health services to people. Dr. Prathap Reddy said the proposed health super highway to be created by Apollo in partnership with IBM would mark a revolution in healthcare delivery not only in India, but also in rest of the world. Medical Education Minister Galla Aruna, Major Industries Minister J.Geeta Reddy, executive director, Apollo Hospitals, Sangitha Reddy and chief cardiac surgeon Girinath spoke.
Tie-up
Earlier, Dr. Prathap Reddy told reporters that the Apollo Group had tied up with DKV Insurance, a German company, for setting up a joint firm for providing insurance policies. Initially, two products would be launched by the end of August or September.
