Rally taken out against child labour

DINDIGUL: Over a thousand students from various schools took out a rally in Dindigul against child labour here on Tuesday. It was flagged off by the Collector, R. Vasuki.

The rally started at Nehruji Memorial Higher Secondary School and ended at Dudley Higher Secondary School after passing through Bazaar Street, clock tower and AMC Road.

Earlier, the Collector administered a pledge to the participants. Virudhunagar

Processions, seminars and human chain formation marked the World Day against Child Labour in the district on Tuesday.

The Collector (in-charge), S. Malarvizhi, flagged off a procession. School students, officials of Indus Child Labour Project and people from voluntary organisations participated. The Municipal Chairperson, Karthiga Karikolraj, the Aruppukottai Divisional Revenue Officer, Sivasubramaniam, and the Project Director of Indus Child Labour Project, Y. Jeyaprakash, participated.

The district administration also screened a short film, `Tholainthupoona kuzhanthai paruvam (The lost childhood)' produced by International Labour Organisation through local cable network.

Similar processions were taken out at Sivakasi, Srivilliputtur, Vembakottai, Mallankinaru, Sattur, Aruppukottai, Rajapalayam, Watrap, Tiruchuzhi and Narikudi, a statement said.

Sivaganga

The Collector, M.A. Siddiqe, on Tuesday, flagged off a rally here.

It started at Palace Gate, went through Marakadai Road, Gandhi Street, Court and culminated at Community Centre.

Students of Sambavika Higher Secondary School, Oxford Matriculation School, Mannar Higher Secondary School, Vivekananda High School and others participated.

A rally was also held at Ramanathapuram. The Collector, R. Kirlosh Kumar, and the Superintendent of Police, R. Thirugnanam, participated.
