DINDIGUL: Effective communication is a must to improve health at villages and health promoters should go to the villages to gain enough experience, the Collector, R. Vasuki, has said. She was launching a postgraduate diploma course in health promotion and education at Gandhigram Institute of Rural Health and Family Welfare Trust at Ambathurai near here on Tuesday. The district administration is ready to make arrangements for the students to visit villages, she said. "Reaching out to the people is a tough task and one needs special skills to make them respond," she said. The former Vice-Chancellor of Gandhigram Rural University, G. Pankajam, said, "Doctors need not speak much to the rural people. But health education promoters should communicate well to enlighten them. Proper health education should reach all villages to create strong human resources. Nutritious foods that are available locally should be popularised among the rural people." The Trust director, Lalitha Kabilan, said that the course would help in converting students into experts in communication, and community training. Later, Ms. Vasuki released the annual report of the Trust and Ms. Pankajam received the first copy.
