OMSA threatens stir

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Members of the Orissa Medical Services Association (OMSA) have threatened to go on a mass resignation if the State Government decides to extend retirement age of doctors from 60 to 62.

"The extension of doctors' retirement age will benefit a handful of senior doctors who are on the verge of their retirement. The amount of salary, the senior doctors will be drawing in last years of their job, could provide two fresh medical graduates with attractive salary at entry level," OMSA president Madhusudan Mishra said addressing a press conference here.

Deploring the move, Dr. Mishra said assistant surgeons would not get a single promotion during their tenure of service.

As per OMSA estimation, of over 4000 odd doctors working in the State, only 45 senior doctors who were mostly in administrative duty will get the benefits.
