Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI: The three-day meeting of the executive council of All-India Brahmin Federation concluded here with a pledge to play a key role not only in asserting the rights of the community in the social, economic and political realms but also to work for `social engineering' aimed at amalgamating the Dalits psychologically and spiritually with the main stream. This is the cause espoused by none other than Sri Adisankara himself, said the national president of the AIBF Devendra Sharma, presiding over the meet. Over hundred delegates from all over the country have attended the EC meet of the AIBF -- the apex body of All-India Brahmin Associations, organisations, federations, operating both on and off the Indian shores.
Renaming
It may be mentioned here that at the invitation of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) K. Jayachandra Naidu, who hails from the Chittoor district, Mr. Sharma and other leaders led the Dalits into the ancient temple of Sri Pallikondeswara Swamy at Surutupalli near Nagalapuram situated close to the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border on the Tirupati-Chennai highway. Taking the cue from Naidu's suggestion, the AIBF also used the programme to rechristen a yanadi colony (tribal colony) near Surutupalli as `Adi Sankarapuram' in tune with the great savant's message to banish untouchability and promote social amalgamation.
