G.O. on payment of 5.652 p.c. DA issued

HYDERABAD: The State Government on Tuesday sanctioned 5.652 per cent Dearness Allowance to employees and teachers, to be paid with June salary. According to G.O. 133, dues from January to May 2007, will be deposited in the General Provident Fund. In case of those without GPF accounts, it will remitted in savings accounts. Cash payments will be made to employees who will retire in October 2007. In case of those appointed after September 1, 2004, DA arrears will be deposited in the compulsory savings accounts as they are covered by the contributory pension scheme.

G.O. 415 to revise G.O. 399

HYDERABAD: The State Government on Tuesday issued orders revising the earlier order 399, relating to repatriation of non-local employees.

The revised order 415, described as "corrigendum", was issued after a detailed discussion with members of the Joint Staff Council, according to an official press release. — Special Correspondent

Award for NGRI chief

HYDERABAD: V.P. Dimri, Director, National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), recently received the Chelikani Atchuta Rao Memorial Cash Award given by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry for being an `outstanding' scientist.

He received a trophy from Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the 89th FAPCCI annual awards function on June 8. — Special Correspondent

Two Salva Judum activists killed

KHAMMAM: Two of the nine Salva Judum activists kidnapped by the naxalites of the CPI (Maoist) in Konta division of Chattisgarh were found killed on Tuesday.

The bodies were traced in a forest near Banda village close to Andhra Pradesh - Chhatisgarh border. The police engaged civilian parties to get the bodies to the divisional headquarters.

TDP `maha' dharna

HYDERABAD: The TDP will stage a `maha dharna' before the Office of Engineer-in-Chief, Irrigation, here on Wednesday, protesting the proposed lifting of Godavari water from Dummugudem to the Nagarjunasagar tail pond.

Meanwhile, TDLP secretary E. Dayakar Rao said the party activists would stage dharnas at all mandal headquarters in six Telangana districts on June 25, protesting the Babli project works.

Nurses protest seeking promotions

HYDERABAD: Members of the Andhra Pradesh Government Nurses' Association on Tuesday staged a two-hour demonstration at all Government hospitals, including in the city, demanding promotions to eligible nurses.

The association said in a press release said that promotions were pending for over a year now.

Demonstrations would continue till June 16, dharnas and relay hunger strikes would be launched from 18 to 20 before the Office of Director of Medical Education. — Special Correspondent

Two killed in lightning

KURNOOL: A mother and her child were struck dead by lightning at Neruduppala in Gonegandla mandal of Kurnool district on Tuesday.

According to reports, Narsamma, 35, her daughter, Eeramma, were working in the field when lightning struck. Another woman was injured. — Special Correspodent

Man ends life

VIZIANAGARAM: L. Sura Appa Rao of Duppada in the town ended his life by jumping before a superfast express train here on Tuesday. He was working as a class IV employee in the Irrigation Department, Parvathipuram division. Family problems were said to be the cause for the extreme step. — Correspondent

Dharna against hall demolition

Kakinada: Leaders of parties, including TDP, BJP, CPI (M), CPI, BSP and AP SC Welfare Association, staged a dharna in front of the Municipal Corporation office here on Tuesday expressing their resentment over the demolition of Ambedkar Community Hall in Ragampet area. They demanded arrest of the landlord responsible for meddling with the structure. - Correspondent

Kakinada: The Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited has exhibited a series of specialty fertilizers such as Maha Zinc, Multi - K and Zeeta growth at a stall opened at the divisional-level `rythu chaitanya sadassu' at Draksharama near here on Tuesday.

Training for youth

VIZIANAGARAM: Keeping in view the severe shortage of drivers, the TDP town committee has decided to impart training to unemployed youth. The party will collect Rs. 500 from each interested candidate. - Correspondent
