Congress leaders differ on G.O. 399

Special Correspondent

  • It is now the turn of Indrakaran Reddy to demand its scrapping
  • Wants party to take a firm decision on Telangana issue

HYDERABAD: Differences of opinion are continuing among Congress leaders over Government Order 399 for implementation of Presidential Order, 1975.

While a majority of Congress leaders describe the G.O. as an enabling order, a section of them are questioning its need when the Government is committed to implement the Presidential Order.

After Congress MLA P. Janardhan Reddy, it is now the turn of senior MLA A. Indrakaran Reddy to demand scrapping of the G.O.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mr. Indrakaran Reddy saw no reason for issuing the order when the Government has more than once clarified its commitment to G.O. 610.

He wanted the party leadership to take firm decision on the creation of separate Telangana State before the next elections.

    `Confined to violations'

Separately, Roads & Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy said the issuance of G.O. 399 reiterated the commitment of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in implementing the Presidential Order.

The latest order had been issued as G.O. 610 was confined to violations before December 1985 and it had no concurrence from departments concerned.

He criticised the Opposition parties, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti in particular, for raising a hue over

G.O. 399 alleging that TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao never spoke about Telangana as long as he was with Telugu Desam.

Asked about the criticism from within, he said there is nothing wrong in having difference of opinion and that the Government is prepared to rectify any shortcomings.
