Rice research centre in East Godavari soon

Aryoga Sri in district from next year: Raghuveera Reddy

MARCHING AHEAD: Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy coming to Rythu Sadassu venue at Draksharama in East Godavari district on Tuesday on a bullock cart.

Draksharama (East Godavari): Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy has announced that a rice research centre will be established in East Godavari very soon.

Addressing a `rythu sadassu' at the agriculture market yard here on Tuesday, he felt that the district which was producing 15 lakh metric tonnes of rice should need a research centre and the district Collector will discuss with Agriculture University and Agriculture Research Centre in Samalkot on location of the centre. He favoured Samalkot or Ramachandrapuram for the centre where the paddy production was highest.

Under the Crop Insurance Scheme last year, the administration had given Rs.75 crores to farmers by taking mandal as a unit. But, here afterwards village would be taken as a unit, the Minister said.

The Agriculture Minister also said that Arogya Sri would be implemented in East Godavari from next year along with other three districts. He asked the Collector to prepare an action plan for `seed village' concept to produce seed by farmers in their own villages. Minister for Social Welfare Pilli Subash Chandrabose, who presided over the meeting, said that the Chief Minister had sanctioned Rs.5,500 crores for delta modernisation.
