CHENNAI: The non-Congress and non-Bharatiya Janata Party front comprising regional parties will hold its second meeting in Chennai on June 18 to take "certain important decisions," according to AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa. In a statement here, she said all the front leaders including former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, Indian National Lok Dal leader Om Prakash Chautala, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha leader Babulal Marandi, leader of the Samajwadi Party (Karnataka) S.Bangarappa, Assam Gana Parishad president, Brindaban Goswami, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Kerala Congress (J) leader P.C.Thomas would take part in the meeting. Ms. Jayalalithaa denied media reports that she had been working for a consensus among the Opposition parties for Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat as an Independent candidate in the forthcoming Presidential election. The party "is now part of a separate front, which includes many other parties," she said. The front, at its recent Hyderabad conclave, took no decision with regard to its stand on the Presidential election. "It was clearly stated to the media that the Hyderabad conclave was only a preliminary meeting and that decisions would be taken at the next meeting in Chennai. Nothing has happened to alter the status quo in the interim period."
