NIZAMABAD: The Livelihood and Training Centre and also the 21st Century Gurukul school will be accommodated on the premises of the Government Borstal School for Boys located on the foothills of the Khilla Nizamabad once the school is shifted to Rajahmundry. Talking to the mediapersons after visiting the school on Monday, Minister for Higher Education D. Srinivas said, the intake of the school dwindled over the years. Therefore, the premises could be utilised for two institutions until they were provided with permanent accommodations. There was a proposal to shift the Borstal School located in ten acres of land. The school has strong buildings and huge open land. A beautiful garden could also be planned in the open ground, the Minister observed.
Shelved projects
Originally the Livelihood Centre, a walkers' track and a park were proposed to be constructed near the Ramarti tank. However, as some residents approached the court opposing the construction, the project was shelved temporarily, he said. The 21st Century Gurukul School was allotted over 100 acre land on the outskirts of the town. The acquisition and development will however, take time. Meanwhile, the Borstal School would be very useful for the rural students wishing to pursue advanced Information Technology courses, he felt. Mr. Srinivas asked Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu, B. Chinnaiah, Superintending Engineer, R&B, IKP Project Director P. Chinatataiah and Project Director, District Water Management P. Ravinder to take steps to improve required facilities at Borstal School to house the two institutions. He later interacted with the child-offenders housed at the Borstal School and promised the inmates that he would talk to the Government for remission of punishment and early release.
