A 90-minute Tamil telefilm by the Visual Communication Department of SRM College is creating waves across the city. Hardly two months into its commercial release by Moser Baer, `377', a thriller that explores a murder scam run by homosexuals in the city, has sold over 10,000 copies. Initially started as a one-month summer project, the film was completed in six months on a shoestring budget of Rs.2 lakh. The entire project was handled by the faculty and students of the department. Amrit Raj Gnanam, Head of Department, and director of `377' said: "It is a concept that has never been observed in South India. Method acting has been adopted in the movie, without exaggerated emotions or song and dance sequences. It will appeal only to the more educated audiences." The shooting, editing and compiling was done by the technical assistants of SRM College. The VCDs and DVDs marketed by Moser Baer are available in video stores across the State. Smaller towns and cities have also sold plenty of copies. Nithya Balakrishnan
