Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM : The Chengalpattu Fast Track Court on Tuesday slapped life sentences on three youths who hacked to death a 25-year-old man in Perumbakkam near Tambaram three years ago.

The victim, Govindan, had asked the youths to return the Rs. 200 cash they had borrowed from him.

The convicted, Ravindran, Srinivasan and Santhosh Kumar, are all in their early twenties. The murder took place in Perumbakkam on August 21, 2005. Govindan, a resident of Medavakkam near Tambaram, had lent Rs. 200 to the three youths, residents of Velachery. On the fateful day, he went to Velachery, informing his relatives that he would be returning with the cash the three youths owed him. However, he returned home empty handed.

The same evening, the three youths came to Perumbakkam. They spotted Govindan, promised to return the cash and took him to a remote corner near the lake and killed him.
