Theft at temple

TIRUCHI: Unidentified persons allegedly stole cash from a hundial kept at the Ayyanar Temple in Gundur near here on Sunday night. According to police sources, the culprits broke the lock of the grille gate to gain entry into the temple. The Navalpattu police are investigating.

Bootlegger held

The Prohibition and Enforcement Wing of the city police arrested a 27-year-old man on a charge of possessing arrack here on Monday. The sleuths seized three litres of arrack from Manikandan at Aravanur, the police said.

CDs seized

The Fort Police seized over 1,000 pirated compact discs of newly released Tamil films and other movies during a raid at Burma Bazaar area here on Monday. Shahul Hameed, Mohammed Mansur, Ruthrapathi and Arumugam were arrested.

Administers pledge

On the occasion of Anti-Child Labour Day, the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, I. Raja, administered anti-child labour pledge to the ministerial and field-level personnel at his office here on Tuesday, a release said.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 73.63 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Tuesday. The inflow was 587 cusecs and the discharge from the dam was 1,000 cusecs.
