Retired official robbed of Rs. 2 lakh

Coimbatore: Retired Income Tax official Samidas (61) was robbed of Rs. 2 lakh here on Tuesday.

According to the police, Mr. Samidas was coming out of the bank after withdrawing the money when he found a few hundred rupee notes near his motorcycle. He kept the cash bag into the motorcycle's petrol tank cover and went inside the bank to hand over the currency. On his return, he found his cash bag missing. Based on his complaint, the Periyanaickenpalayam police are investigating.

Two arrested

Coimbatore City Police have arrested two persons on charges chain snatching and have recovered two motorcycles and gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.11 lakh from them.

Following incidents of chain snatching, City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), R. Tamilchandran constituted special police teams. The teams arrested V. Inbasekaran (32) of Avanashi and S. Sathishkumar (24) of Annur and recovered the stolen gold chains and the motorcycle used for the crime besides another stolen motorcycle.

Man killed

Gomathi Sankar (32), a representative in a private firm on Dr. Balasundaram Road, was killed when he fell off from the North Coimbatore flyover.

It is learnt that the victim on his motorcycle lost control over the vehicle and hit the wall of the flyover before the fatal fall. He was rushed to the CMCH where he died.

Held

The Railway Police here have arrested Raghavan (56), a civilian staff in a defence establishment at Avadi in Chennai, on charges of teasing a fellow woman passenger while travelling in the West Coast Express from Chennai to Mangalore on Monday night.

The Chennai-based professor aged 27 preferred a complaint with the police.
