Pranayakalam When the parents oppose their union, the two lovers are torn between their love and attachment to their family. The film Pranayakalam (Season of Love), written and directed by Uday Ananthan, has this familiar story to tell. Contrary to what the title promises, the `love' element is given secondary importance. The film seems more concerned with the reaction of the family members. However, this aspect of the film does impress with some well-defined characters like the girl's parents. The dialogues are by K. Girish Kumar. Ranjith (newcomer Ajmal Ameer) falls in love with Maria (Vimala Raman). Initially, Maria rejects him but gradually starts liking him. They are aware that their union is near impossible, as they belong to different religions and background. Maria's father is police ASI Varghese (Murali), who treats his family with cruel discipline. He is not on talking terms with his ailing wife, Anna (Seema). When Varghese learns about the affair between Maria and Ranjith, he gets Ranjith beaten up in the police lock-up and sends goons to threaten his family. Ranjith's father Balagopal (Balachandra Menon) is at first supportive of the lovers. However, Varghese's behaviour turns him against their marriage. The cast includes Thilakan, Madhu Warier and Baburaj. Jibu Jacob and Lokanathan capture on camera the scenic beauty. Rafeeque Ahamed's lyrics are set to music by Ouseppachan. `Parayoo prabhathame' lingers in our ears. The singers are K.J. Yesudas, K.S. Chitra, Sujatha and Sayanora. Pranayakalam is produced by A.V.Anoop..
