KOCHI: Heavy rain marred the anti-encroachment drive across the district. The revenue authorities recovered 30.32 cents of backwater `poramboke' in four separate cases in Pallipuram, which comes under the Kochi taluk limits. The land grabbers had built fences separating the encroached area so as to impose their ownership, an official said. Besides, the team marked 11 cents as encroachment in two separate cases in the Thoppumpady village. Heavy rain affected the drive, as it was difficult for the surveyors to mark the encroachments, the official said. The revenue authorities were all set to take the anti-encroachment drive to the Angamaly municipal limits from Wednesday. Three surveyors would be deployed for the drive in the region. Meanwhile, the ongoing drive in Desam, which came under the Aluva taluk, detected widespread encroachments, including on rivers and canals, an official said. In one single incident the encroachment extended to about 10 metres, he said. The team issued notices to five encroachments in Desam. In Kanayannur taluk, the survey along the Chilavannur backwaters detected encroachments measuring 20 cents in the Elamkulam village limits on Tuesday. Apart from this, the team also detected encroachments of over 1.17 acres. Going by the market value, it could cost approximately Rs.3.5 crore. In Paravur taluk, notices were issued to five trading establishments even as voluntary eviction continued in different parts of the taluk. The revenue authorities served notices on 10 encroachments in Perumbavur town, which came under the Kunnathunadu taluk. Most of these were found to be small encroachments like a protruding board or a flight of stairs extending to the `porambokep area, an official said. The notices served on four encroachments on the river `poromboke' falling within the Kombanad village limits would be evicted later this week, he said. So far, the authorities had recovered Government property worth Rs.6.15 lakh in Kunnathunadu taluk.
Corporation support

The corporation would help in removing all unauthorised construction after the deadline issued for the encroachers expired, he said in a statement.
