Yella's symphony promises enthralling fare

Special Correspondent

The concert on Friday with 100 artistes will be a mix of instrumental, vocal music and dance

BREED APART: Mrudangam maestro Yella Venkateswara Rao.

HYDERABAD: World-renowned mrudangam maestro Yella Venkateswara Rao will present a symphony of Indian classical music `Triveni Sangamam' with a group of 100 artistes at Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam here on Friday.

The 90-minute concert being organised by Chaitanya Art Theatres will be a blend of instrumental, vocal music and dance, conceptualised and composed by the maestro. Disclosing the details to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Venkateswara Rao said Triveni Sangamam would musically capture the origin of the Ganga from the Himalayas, Yamuna and Saraswati and their course through various States and cultures till their confluence.

Nature's sounds

Devoid of lyrics, the symphony using different ragas and various instruments would make one experience the feel of the rivers, their vigour and flow, blending in the sounds of nature, transporting one to a different world altogether. "I chose the theme because culture and river have much in common. What is music to culture is river to civilisation. Civilisations thrived on the banks of rivers giving birth to art and culture. My effort is to drive home a message for protecting our natural and cultural heritage," Mr.Venkateswara Rao said.

Apart from 50 violins, nadaswaram, veena, bhasuri, sitar, clarinet, `Dolu', saxophone, tabla, kanjeera, ghatam, mrudangam, morsing, etc., would be part of the symphony along with 16 vocalists and a classical dance performance.

K.K. Raja of Chaitanya Art Theatres said admission would be by invitations available at the venue free of cost on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. apart from their office at Lakdikapul, Ph. No. 23215555.
